The company has sold more than 2.5 lakh electric cars, setting a record in India

Tata Motors has announced that its total electric car (EV) sales in India have crossed 2.50 lakh units. This achievement is a major milestone for the company’s electric passenger vehicle business. Tata launched its first mainstream electric car in 2020, the Nexon EV. Now the SUV itself has become the first EV in India to cross the 1 lakh unit sales mark.

According to the company, this new figure comes from its existing EV range, which includes the Nexon EV, Harrier EV, Tiago EV, Express-T EV and the recently launched Punch EV for the fleet segment. Tata said its electric cars have a large share of the passenger EV market. This is due to the early entry into the EV segment and the availability of models in different body styles and prices.

Due to which the sales are increasing

Tata Motors attributed the increase in EV sales to growing demand for electric vehicles from private customers and fleet operators, particularly in cities. According to the company, the Tata EV series has traveled over 5 billion kilometers so far. This data shows that people are adopting EVs not only for limited use but also for daily needs.

Tata’s plan for EVs

Tata is continuously investing in charging infrastructure in India. More than 20,000 public charging points are now available across the country under the network created in collaboration with Tata Power. The company also revealed that it is preparing to launch a new electric model based on its unique EV architecture. Along with this, the software and connectivity will also be improved, so that the customer experience will be better. Tata will launch the new Sierra EV and the updated Punch EV in early 2026. At the same time, the premium and luxury segment Ki Avinya (Avinya) series will be introduced by the end of next year. All this is part of Tata’s larger target, which plans to introduce 5 new EV brands including Sierra and Avinya by FY2030, along with major updates to its existing range.
