EV charging facility will also be available at over 27,000 charging station ready petrol pumps across the country.

India has significantly increased charging facilities for electric vehicles (EV) in the year 2025. Thousands of new EV charging stations have been installed at petrol pumps across the country. According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, 8,932 charging stations were installed at petrol pumps under the government’s FAME-II scheme. Apart from this, oil companies have installed more than 18,500 charging stations on their behalf. Thus, there are a total of 27,432 EV charging stations across the country.

With this increase, it will become easier for people to drive electric cars and bikes, as charging facilities will now be available in more places. These charging stations are at the same places where people already go to fill up petrol and diesel, so drivers will not face any problem in finding a different place for charging.

Charging stations are also being built on major roads

According to the ministry, state-owned oil companies are building 4,000 energy stations on major highways and other important locations in the country between 2024-25 and 2028-29. These stations will have petrol and diesel as well as biofuel, CNG, LNG (wherever possible) and EV charging facilities. By November 1, 2025, 1,064 energy stations have been built in the country.

Improve road safety

Along with charging cars, the government has also focused on big trucks. Under the Apna Ghar project, more than 500 rest stops have been created for truck drivers. This will improve road safety and also increase employment opportunities in villages. All these measures are part of the national plan to make transport cleaner and better in the future.

Ethanol saves crores of rupees

The year 2025 also saw a huge increase in the use of biofuels. In 2024-25, petrol was blended with an average of 19.24 per cent ethanol. Due to this, foreign exchange savings of Rs. 1.55 lakh crore and the carbon emissions also reduced significantly. Biofuels were promoted under Pradhan Mantri G-One Yojana. A major achievement in this direction was the commissioning of second generation ethanol plants at Panipat and Numaligarh.

Focus on digital payments

The Ministry also focused on strengthening the petroleum marketing structure. Digital payment facility was launched at over 90,000 petrol pumps, supported by over 2.71 lakh POS machines. More than 3,200 tankers (bozers) were commissioned for door-to-door delivery of petrol and diesel, providing convenience to people in remote areas. Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, almost all petrol pumps have been equipped with toilets, many of which have separate toilets for women and men.
