Hello! It’s nearly the end of the summer, and this podcast marks the end of the Ward & Walter Summer Read. But fear not, as Ward & Walter shall return for a new podcast series in the autumn with some great new reads, and a two-part Christmas special! But that’s a while away. For now, we have some great books to discuss!
Synopsis: Police Commissioner Aurelio Zen had crossed swords with the establishment before – and lost. But from the depths of a mundane desk job in Rome he is unexpectedly transferred to Perugia to take over an explosive kidnapping case involving one of Italy’s most powerful families.
Barnaby’s thoughts: Rather enjoyed it. Quite complex at times, but still a good, gripping crime mystery.
Charlotte’s thoughts: Didn’t enjoy it. Found it rather boring.
What a Scoundrel Wants by Carrie Lofty
Synopsis: A swordsman for the Sheriff of Nottingham, Will Scarlet has finally emerged from his famous uncle’s shadow. But when he’s unwittingly drawn into a bloody battle between the Sheriff and a nobleman, it’s impossible to tell friend from foe. A woman’s screams lead Will straight into the carnage to save her – but the ravishing young lady is not the helpless maid she appears to be…Meg of Keyworth lost her sight to illness years ago, but that hasn’t stopped her mission to save her imprisoned sister, who’s been arrested by none other than Will Scarlet. Meg wants to hate Will for betraying her family, but he sparks heated desire in her heart – a desire that only he can satisfy. Meg is lovely and loving, and bedding her is sensual bliss. To please her in every way is what he wants most…for Will knows he will cherish her forever…
Barnaby’s thoughts: Utter nonsense. A very silly book, but with a cover like that what do you expect?
Charlotte’s thoughts: Ridiculous, terrible, weird.
