Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling
Synopsis: Harry Potter is preparing to leave the Dursleys and Privet Drive for the last time. But the future that awaits him is full of danger, not only for him, but for anyone close to him – and Harry has already lost so much. Only by destroying Voldemort’s remaining Horcruxes can Harry free himself and overcome the Dark Lord’s forces of evil. In this dramatic conclusion to “The Harry Potter Series”, Harry must leave his most loyal friends behind, and in a final perilous journey find the strength and the will to face his terrifying destiny: a deadly confrontation that is his alone to fight. In this thrilling climax to the phenomenally bestselling series, J.K. Rowling reveals all to her eagerly waiting readers.
Charlotte: Liked it of course, but not as much as the others in the series.
Barnaby: Love Harry Potter, but this is far from J.K.’s best work. But even so, a nice end to the series.
The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank
Synopsis: “The Diary of a Young Girl” is among the most enduring documents of the 20th century. Anne Frank kept a diary from 1942 to 1944. Initially she wrote it strictly for herself. Then, one day in 1944, a member of the Dutch government in exile announced in a radio broadcast from London that after the war he hoped to collect eyewitness accounts of the suffering of the Dutch people under the German occupation, which could be made available to the public. As an example, he specially mentioned letters and diaries. Anne Frank decided that when the war was over, she would publish a book based on her diary. Anne’s diary ends abruptly when she and her family were betrayed. Since its publication in 1947, “The Diary of a Young Girl” has been read by tens of millions of people.
Charlotte: One of my favourite books. An amazing and moving read.
Barnaby: Incredible, candid and heartbreaking. Everyone should read this.
