On Friday the 4th of July in The Billericay School year 10’s had to take part in a risk assessment and re-enactment of a theoretical disaster and explain how they would react if they were the emergency services . The scenario was based around a country show at ‘Barleylands’ and a helicopter crash at the show.
At this event the whole of the year 10′s were off-timetable for the whole day; to look at information on Barleylands and the helicopter crash and then they received instructions/guidelines on what they had to do.
The main emphasis was thinking about:
- Casualties (who)
- Hazards (what)
- Access (how/where)
- Location (where)
- Emergency services (which, who and how)
- Type of incident (the what)
This is what they will be judged by, the C.H.A.L.E.T criteria.
One of the students was quoted as saying, “I thought it was a fun day that made me learn a lot about emergency services”.
The winning house team for the ‘Operation Windmill’ Barleylands exercise won a prize of tickets to the actual Barleylands show.
