Dance Show

Hey,

I’m Sarah. I am a student in year 8 at the Billericay School.

For the past 10 years, I have been dancing at `The Billericay Dance Centre` and I still do. Here I do, Jazz, ballet, and Tap. At my dance school we teach girls and boys from the ages of 3 up to 18. We teach modern, tap, ballet, jazz, and street dance.

At the moment we are preparing for a dance show that happens every 2 years. This year it is taking place at the Thameside Theatre in Grays in July. Before the show, we have numerous rehearsals that we go to. The day before the show, we do a rehearsal at 7:00pm and it finishes at roughly 11:30pm. Then the next day, in the afternoon we perform to the parents. The next day we perform in the morning and then we do it all over again in the evening. In the evening we get recorded and the show gets put on to a DVD that we can purchase. It is a very stressful time of year for us and our dance teachers, as everything has got to be perfect!

“Although it is very stressful preparing for a huge dance show, I enjoy making up the dance moves and looking for the costumes, and I love teaching them!”- Miss Nikki (Dance teacher)

“I think the dance shows are a great way to show the parents what the students have learnt, and how much they have improved since last time!”- Miss Laura (Dance teacher.)

“I think that these girls, and boys, are brilliant to perform a fantastic show at their age! It is really hard work for them to actually pull off a great show, and they do it easily!”- Miss Anya (Dance teacher.)

“I love taking part in our dance shows because they’re great fun to do!”- A student at our dance school.

When we aren’t preparing for the show we have dance exams to worry about! We offer dance exams in tap, ballet and modern. If we pass the exams then we will go up a grade. At the moment I am grade 4 in ballet and grade 3 in tap. There are no grades in jazz and street dance.

“The exams aren’t really as stressful as you might think. Like any exam, it’s relatively easy when you know what to do!”- A student at our dance school.
