The Basildon Borough Young Persons Parliament Project engages large numbers of local young people in the democratic process. It is an interactive project where the young people get the chance to form their own party, consult with their peers as to their views on the area in which they live, write their own election manifesto, write and record their own party political broadcast, take part in a specially organised debate in the Towngate Theatre, take a trip to the Houses of Parliament, enter into a real election and finally, win the chance to carry out their “election ideas” for the benefit of the community.
