It’s a crisp late November evening; you hear a slight jingle coming from the buzz of your TV. You hear..
“Holidays are coming
Holidays are coming
Holidays are coming
Holidays are coming
Holidays are coming
Holidays are coming
T’is the season
Watch out
Look around
Something’s coming
Coming to town (Coming to your town)
Doo doo doo…
Always Coca Cola (Coming to your town)
Something magic
In the night
Can’t you see it
Shining bright (Shining bright)
Badada…
Always Coca Cola”
You know Christmas is looming on us.
I don’t know about you but the first time I hear this song, I confirm we are in the Christmas era. Either that or the first bauble on sale in Marks and Spencers. Or the first time Muppets Christmas Carol is on ITV1. Or the first mince pies on sale in Tesco.
There are many different traditions that separate people follow around Christmas, and my family are that one that follows them by the book. We write our food shopping list on the first Sunday of December, put up the tree the first Friday of December and eagerly await the weekends to pimp our house out with even more snowflakes and tinsel. I am a HUGE Christmas fan and despise anyone what so ever Scrooge that comes near me, the rush of getting all sweaty running around Lakeside and elbowing tourists on Oxford St is all part of the fun. I have the tradition of Christmas Eve, drinking Cinzano and Lemonade, opening one present and decorating the table for my Mum, Dad Aunt, Uncle and Nan and our Christmas meal following. Even though this year will be different, with my parents separating in the summer, my mum’s friends crashing at ours and my boyfriend joining in with the crazy family traditions, it will still be a Christmas to remember.
Many different families are filled with different traditions, whether your parents wrap presents on Christmas eve night, buying Pringles, a sixteen family meal or playing Charades without fail every year. We all have traditions, whether we know it or not and these things that make our Christmas so special.
Well I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy new year too.

Merry Christmas everyone
Alex
