On May 12, we visited Stratford to see what the Olympic site was like and interview members of the community. Everyone in Stratford says that the Olympics are good for the town and will bring good publicity to the area.
One man we interviewed told us, “I think that the Olympic site is pretty good for the money that has been spent on it.” Also, as a response to our questions about whether or not he felt safe in Stratford with the games he said, “I don’t think we have anything to worry about. London is a pretty safe place and when the Olympics come that won’t change.” All the people we asked had roughly the same view about the Olympic Games and the site.
One or two of the younger people we asked said that there might be a bit of violence and vandalism because that is what the area is like. Yet when we questioned more people they said that there was nothing to worry about.
Many people in the public agree that the Olympic stadium will be used after the Olympics actually ends on September 9.
Olympics facts
The Olympic Delivery Authority is in charge of building the ‘theatre’ and the London Organising Committe for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) will ‘put on the show’. The Olympic Delivery Authority has taken into account the public’s views and has started work on two sets of buildings. One is the permanent buildings that will be open to the public after the Olympics, and the other a set of temporary buildings that will be taken down after the Olympics. The land that the Olympic site is built on was a waste land of broken office blocks and warehouses. The Olympic project turned that land into a wonderful site for future use even after the Olympics!
